Aussie Mummy Bloggers with the X Factor Awards – We Have a Winner!

Posted April 29th, 2011 and last modified May 2nd, 2011

After a grueling competition hotly contested by 23 of Australia’s finest mummy bloggers, we have discovered our ‘Queen of Content’ and crowned a champion – congratulations to Glowless who raked in the Tweets and Facebook Likes to pull ahead of her fellow Mummy Bloggers and take out the title… and the Apple iPad 2!

The Aussie Mummy Bloggers with the X Factor Awards was partnered by Aussie Mummy Bloggers and Home Loan Finder, who used its platform as a popular and prominent Australian home loan comparison website to promote the 23 finalists and to encourage the thousands of votes which saw the final five winners get over the line.

No one ever said that being a mother was easy. However, that doesn’t stop the hordes of people who think they can make it easier, telling you how you could be doing the job better, what developmental stage your child should be at, what you should be feeding them and how you should be wiping their nose. Being a mum, you’re just one person and you’re not going to get it right all the time. As well as your friends and family who can help you out, it is always reassuring to know that there are other women out there wondering where the training course was for this job. It is also important for Aussie mums to know that there is more than one way to go about being a mum, and the diversity represented in the Aussie Mummy Bloggers with the X Factor Awards highlighted the unique spirit, enduring passion and endless love of 23 top Australian blogging mums.

As finalists in the awards, each blogger was immortalised as a cartoon caricature, which was enough reward for some (http://hearmumroar.com/2011/03/aussie-mummy-blogger-xfactor). Other mums were motivated to encourage voting and polish up their blog sites for the chance to win an iPad 2 (http://www.diminishinglucy.com/2011/03/ok.html), while others found even more creative ways to encourage votes (http://www.goodgollyholly.com/2011/03/all-i-am-saying-is-give-peace-chance.html). Regardless of their methods, all the girls were excited to be nominated and encouraged votes through their blog (http://www.justmeblog.com/2011/03/30/lots-going-on/), providing their readers a link to the Home Loan Finder awards pages where each mummy blogger had an interview posted and links to their Facebook and Twitter pages.

Top Five Bloggers as Voted by You

  1. Where’s My Glow? For some mums, the pregnancy and motherhood glow perpetuated by movies and television ends up being just a myth and Glowless blogs on the absence of her serene sense of beauty and peace. Glowless has a nine month old son, and takes you through the uncomfortable and unglamorous parts of motherhood which are often glossed over in other media.

  2. Writing Out Loud. Megan made what is often seen as an unpopular choice amongst career women, and chose to be a stay-at-home mum. However, even with a two year old daughter Megan still had time to fill and turned to blogging to tell you all about being a mother, and everything else going on in her life from home renovations to sharing recipes.

  3. So Now What? Bern Morley has three children, one with Asperger’s and shares the high and low points of her family life. Whether she is telling you about a night out with the girls, a funny family moment or the difficulties of caring for a child with special needs, Bern is a compelling writer.

  4. Random Ramblings of a Stay At Home Mum. Lori has been blogging on the trials and experiences of being a stay-at-home mum for many years. In January 2011 Lori tragically saw her husband commit suicide, and continues to bravely share her experiences and her thoughts through her blog, asking that her readers cast off their judgements and take away a new perspective and appreciation for their family.

  5. Good Golly Miss Holly. Holly is working hard to remain down to earth, keep having fun and most of all stay sane despite being a mother of two. She’s not afraid to use her favourite expletives to express herself online, and assures readers she’s just the same if you met her in person. Holly breathes a young, modern, Gen Y breath into motherhood and takes her readers along for the ride.

Home Loan Finder would like to thank ALL of the mummy bloggers who participated in the awards and send a special congratulations to the leading bloggers who captivated so many readers and inspired them to vote. The race for votes remained close throughout the voting period and all of our contestants should be proud of the strength, creativity, passion and honesty they put into their blogs every day, to touch and support thousands of Australian mums.

I love reading all the blogs nominated. Glowless can always bring a smile to my dial when the kids are trying to add to my collection of wrinkles. What a fab and worthy winner, congrats!
