Aussie Mummy Bloggers with the X-Factor Awards: Where’s My Glow?

1.How long have you been blogging for?

I started blogging in December 2009 only planning on family and friends seeing the content, but I decided to open it up to a wider audience and take it “seriously” in August 2010.

2.What made you decide to start your own blog?

I was pregnant and feeling a little sorry for myself because I didn’t have the pregnancy Glow that all the books and movies say you’ll get, hence my pseudonym and blog name. It grew from a creative outlet to a sanity saver when the sleepless nights and isolation of a new infant arrived.

3.How do you enjoy to spend your time outside of blogging?

There’s time outside of blogging? I like to go “out for coffee” even though I don’t actually drink coffee. I do a little bit of work as a freelance makeup artist, so I spend some time checking out the latest products and working on photoshoots. Well that and Twitter.

4.How many children do you have?

I have one little boy, affectionately known as Tricky. He’s eight months old and could easily be mistaken for a clone of his Dad. I also have one furry child, a two year old Belgian Shepherd called Sprocket.

5.What posts are you most proud of?

I have a few favourite posts, some are just light hearted, humourous ones whilst others are more serious and are quite honest and open; they show the real me. For sentimental reasons I love my monthly Letters to Tricky and I hope to print them all out one day and present them to him.

I’m particularly proud of the posts detailing my son’s journey with Craniosynostosis. Writing it all down has let me process it and been quite cathartic. It’s also been found by a few “Cranio Mums” who have contacted me prior to their child’s surgery to say I put their mind at ease – it was a wonderful feeling to know I’d helped someone.

6.What do you enjoy blogging about most?

I like writing about the things that other parents can relate to. If I can make people laugh then I’m happy. If they nod along at a shared experience then I’m ecstatic. If they comment saying they were laughing and nodding along then I practically froth at the mouth with excitement.

7.What projects/articles are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on some guest posts for a few other blogs and parenting forums. I love guest posting, it’s like going on a little bloggy holiday.

8.Why should viewers vote for your blog in the X-Factor Awards?

Is “Because I’m awesome” a valid answer? No? Well then I suppose viewers should vote for me because the last time I won something was when I was six years old and I correctly guessed the number of jelly beans in a giant jar at the local church fete. That and the backlit screen of the Ipad might give me that illusive Glow, plus it would make my tech-head husband very jealous.

9.What can we expect from your blog in 2011?

I’ll be counting down my ‘Thirty before 30’ list and commenting on life in my usual honest but tongue-in-cheek way as I fumble my way through mamahood.
